Be part of the French Film Festival

The rich diversity of contemporary French cinema is showcased in the 2018 Alliance Française French Film Festival. This widely recognised cultural extravaganza has built up a strong following and enjoyed continued success since its inception 29 years ago. Fifty movies, encompassing a diverse range of themes, will begin their nationwide tour in Sydney on 27 February before travelling to Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Parramatta and Casula.

Indulge your love of French cinema with this once a year offering that runs the gamut of palates to include adventurous forays, romantic romps, historic drama and biopics, documentaries and children’s fare to name just a few. Familiar luminaries of French cinema represented in this movie marathon, whose performances reveal immersive characterisations, include Juliette Binoche, Gérard Depardieu, Isabelle Huppert and Vincent Cassel.

To view the full selection of movies, visit the official website where you will be introduced to comedies such as Léonor Serraille’s Montparnasse Bienvenüe, about the unpredictable and chaotic life of Paula, which won the Camera d’Or for Best Feature at Cannes last year. Or, if a drama is more your style, Albert Dupontel’s See You Up There, an epic crime drama adapted from Pierre Lemaitre’s best-selling novel Au Revoir Là-haut set in the 1920s after the horrors of WW1.

The French Ambassador Christophe Penot observed that “the success of French films in Australia is indicative of their universal appeal” which supports the notion that there is something for everyone to enjoy in this festival.
