La Belle Vie French Market – 2 May 2021
We are sure you will all agree that our La Belle Vie French market in 2021 was a fabulous day!
We were delighted to have the Consul General de France, Madame Anne Boillon and French representative, Sebastien Vallerie in attendance. They were impressed by both the organisation of the market and the huge support from the Shire community as well as from those who had travelled from afar to get genuine taste of French savouries, delicacies and savoir faire.
Another great and rewarding acknowledgement of the day was from the attendance of the NSW Department of Education’s Executive Director Mrs Deborah Summer Hayes, and Director Mr Kem Rakiposki. Their visit to the market highlighted their appreciation of the Taren Point Public School French Immersion Program and it’s community partnership with the Francophone Association of Southern Sydney (FASS), who are valued supporters of the program.
We need to thank all the many people who worked on this programme from the beginning, and then established and embedded it, including the previous Principal of the school Mr Trent Bridgland, Ms Anyes McLean, Administration Officer and Mrs Ludivine Robbins, French teacher. The new Principal, Mr James Nobbs has taken over the baton and is giving the programme the impetus it needs as well as strengthening the partnership with FASS.
A massive thank you to our wonderful stallholders who catered to the 1000s of visitors who enthusiastically turned out to enjoy the event.
Behind every successful market is a team of outstanding volunteers. Merci to FASS President, Marc de Casanove for his dedication to the cause and to the members who helped set up the day before, did letterbox drops, manned the parking, sorted and sold books and raffle tickets. Thank you also to the TPPS staff and principal James Nobbs who hosted us for the day and manned the gates, welcoming our visitors, helped with set up and pack up, emptied bins and represented our school with pride and enthusiasm. Thank you also to the TPPS P&C Committee, school families and friends who volunteered on the stalls and helped out on the day. Their commitment is very much appreciated.
Whilst there are too many wonderful volunteers to mention personally, we must give special thanks to:
*Sutherland Shire Council for allowing us to use the vacant land across from the school for parking, which was full all day.
- Kennards Hire for their generous support of the market.
- Jim McMahon from Shire Farmers Market who is an avid supporter and worked tirelessly on the day.
- Steve Clifford who is the man behind our creative Instagram posts.
- Helen Gorman, Anne Clement Olivier Clement, Eliza Paea, Isabelle Carleton and Sandie Tolliday our incredible set up and pack up team who keenly helped and encouraged everyone.
- Sandie Tolliday for her Admin nouse and enthusiastic support.
- Anne Clement for keeping you all up to date with her market posts and promotion of the event.
The proceeds from the gold coin donations, stallholder fees and the TPPS, P&C and FASS stalls is a huge boost for the French immersion programme and the school community as a whole, as well as for FASS to continue its work in promoting French language and culture in our area of Sydney.
